Buying your Lift Pass
It is actually very difficult to book your lift passes before you arrive in Bansko. Unfortunately, the operators do not yet provide this facility, but for Bansko to compete with other European resorts, this will have to change soon.
Picking up a pass at the Gondola base station is easy. Queues are moderate, but watch out for popular dates, like Christmas, where you could be waiting for a lot longer. Most lift passes require photo ID, which is sorted out for you at the desk in a ‘click’.
‘Ulen’ the lift operators do take a 5 lev deposit for the chip card, which can be refunded, although a lift pass is often a nice memento!
Using your Lift Pass
Bansko’s gondola station is extremely modern, only completed in 2003. All of Bansko’s lifts work on the chip card system, which helps keep all queues to minimum.
So you will be pleased to hear that you won’t need to remove gloves and fumble around for your pass, as long as you have it in your pocket, the gate will automatically let you through. If you have any problems or questions with the lifts or ski passes the very helpful resort staff will be glad to help you out, so don’t be afraid to ask!
